What is transpersonal art therapy?
Transpersonal art therapy is a whole person approach to wellbeing which means it addresses a person’s mental, physical, emotional, creative, social, spiritual and intellectual needs.
It provides a safe and supportive, non-judgmental space for a person to openly share personal experiences, thoughts and emotions and creatively express themselves across all art forms - this can range from drawing, clay work, working with nature, creative writing or even movement and dance.
In transpersonal art therapy, the client has agency over their own life and as the therapist, we are guided by the client's healing journey. We adapt with the client - which means adjusting art processes to suit their individual needs. This is what makes transpersonal art therapy person-centred and strength-based.
The therapist walks alongside the client, carrying with them a backpack full of holistic tools - breathwork, meditations, visualisations - and much more.
The heart of what is involved in healing work is appreciating the client for where they are at, amplifying their art expressions and honouring the experiences of the client that are uniquely their own.
